"I was more than happy to let Sandy bring my dream to life and to co-ordinate everything. The amount of time and effort she saved me, my husband and my family is just too large to be counted. I spent my time enjoying my family and friends being over from the States rather than fussing about the details. My wedding day was incredible and a real reflection of us as a couple. Thank you so much for everything" Alicia & Phil
Alicia first telephoned Sandy in September 2006. She was planning to marry in September 2007 and had found her venue, but wanted help sourcing suppliers and designing the day. During their free initial consultation, Sandy ran through a lengthy questionnaire and started to build up a picture of what the couple was looking for. ‘I knew immediately that this was a wedding I wanted to work on. Alicia was great fun and had strong ideas about what she did and didn’t want’ says Sandy. Purple, being Alicia’s absolute favourite colour, was to feature heavily throughout.
Following this meeting Sandy wrote a comprehensive summary of the discussion and put together a proposal and fee. She was hired, much to her delight, and set to work.
After visiting the venue, Sandy put together a timeline for the wedding and set about evaluating which suppliers might be most suitable. Alicia was easy to work with and enthusiastic about the suppliers Sandy put in front of her and soon the main elements were booked.
Being from Chicago, Alicia had many friends and family flying over from the US, so transport for guests was imperative. Sandy hired coaches for the wedding day and for the Sunday to take guests to the airport. Being an outdoor ceremony, a wet weather plan was fundamental but, thankfully, on the day itself the weather was cool, crisp and bright – utterly perfect for the big day.
Sandy started the day purchasing and putting together 30 packed lunches for assorted family members/ guests, then headed off for the venue. After checking in with the venue coordinator chairs were brought onto the lawn and the chair cover firm went to work beautifying them. White on white looked very elegant in the private garden with ivory and purple flowers threaded around the gazebo under which the couple were to say their vows.
Key members of the party were walked and talked through the ceremony and drinks reception plan before heading off to check in. Sandy went to work placing all the relevant items in the reception room alongside the florist, who continued her work in purple and ivory, whilst shooing her bride off to be pampered by the hair and make up artist in her room.
Sandy brought down bride and bridesmaid, the latter in purple of course, a few minutes prior to the ceremony with a proud Dad waiting. The ceremony was intimate, touching and most importantly, very personal with the bride and groom dancing their way back up the aisle before heading off for a drinks reception and photographs.
Meanwhile Sandy worked with venue staff to ensure everyone had what they needed. ‘The importance of building relationships with the suppliers and venue staff cannot be underestimated’, says Sandy, ‘everyone needs to know what their role is on the day and feel comfortable that they are supported by others around them’.
After cake cutting the party moved inside, picking up escort cards to establish where they should sit. The traditional speeches took place at the beginning of the meal and then the floor was thrown open to anyone else wishing to make a speech during the meal – a lovely, spontaneous American custom which Sandy would love to introduce into more English weddings.
After the meal a dance floor was cleared and the couple did a wonderfully choreographed first dance, complete with dry ice and members of the family joining in. This was topped only by the groom playing a fabulous set with his own band. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house.
“I had a vivid picture in my head of how I wanted my day to unfold but I simply didn’t have the time or the contacts to make it a reality. Having chosen the venue I was more than happy to let Sandy bring my dream to life and to co-ordinate everything. The amount of time and effort she saved me, my husband and my family is just too large to be counted. I spent my time enjoying my family and friends being over from the States rather than fussing about the
details. My wedding day was incredible and a real reflection of us as a couple. Thank you so much for everything” says Alicia
